A publisher mix for a Brazilian travel operator aimed at trip and guide URLs

Brand search was fine. Trip templates and destination guides were not. The campaign followed how Brazilians plan travel, not a flat monthly quota.

Placement mix

Accepted live URLs by format on the approved pool.

The challenge

The operator sells guided trips and packages tied to Pantanal and related Brazilian destinations. The homepage ranked for brand. Trip and guide URLs stalled behind aggregators and generic travel blogs that accept almost anyone.

Previous placements sat on thin travel directories and English outdoor blogs with no Brazilian Portuguese audience. Seasonal demand spikes were not matched by a publisher calendar. The team needed links that looked like travel journalism, because that is what buyers read while planning.

Homepage-only vanity links would have taught the graph the wrong URL. The brief required destinations that feed booking: trip templates and a destination guide hub with internal links into bookable pages.

The approach

Destinations were named up front. Homepage-only pitches were declined. Criteria covered travel and lifestyle niches, Ahrefs DR, Moz DA, Majestic TF, and a traffic floor. A sample list of Brazilian travel press, regional lifestyle titles, and outdoor publishers landed usually within 24 hours with metrics and pricing.

The client approved a pool of about twice the monthly target. Seasonal angles followed Brazilian travel planning cycles rather than a flat quota. Outreach mixed national travel desks with regional titles whose readers already plan Pantanal and Cerrado trips.

Every prospect was hand-vetted against PBNs, thin sites, and outbound neighbourhoods that looked like client lists. In-house Brazilian Portuguese writers drafted articles past 1,500 words unless a shorter length was requested, with original route notes and packing context editors could cite. Product mentions appeared only where a trip sentence already belonged. Live URLs went into a shared Google Sheet with publish date and destination URL tagged.

Results

Over 6 months, organic sessions on trip and guide URLs rose 63 percent. Brand traffic stayed relatively flat, which is the shape of discovery work rather than branded capture.

Editorial placements on the approved pool reached 28. Referral sessions from travel hosts converted above site average during peak planning months for the itineraries in play.

Secondary destination queries began appearing in Brazilian page-one results for the guide hub, giving the content team a reason to keep investing in guide depth rather than chasing more homepage mentions.

What we declined

  • Homepage-only vanity placements that ignored trip and guide URLs.
  • Thin travel directories and English outdoor blogs with no Brazilian Portuguese fit.
  • PBNs and manipulated-metric hosts that failed the hand-vet.
  • Generic Latin American travel packages that treated Brazil as a Spanish add-on.

Closing notes

The publisher calendar still follows how Brazilians plan trips. A quiet month during low season is reported as a quiet month, not padded with junk to protect a chart.

New Brazilian travel prospects keep entering the Google Sheet so the mix can shift when a new itinerary launches or a destination guide is rewritten.
